How do I get to Vision Clinic from San Diego?
We're about a 20–25 minute drive from the San Ysidro/PedWest border crossing, in Tijuana's Río Zone — one of the city's most established and easy-to-find medical districts. Most patients drive across and take a taxi or rideshare from the border, or cross on foot via PedWest and take a short cab ride. Once you book your appointment, our team will help you plan the easiest route for your visit.
How much does cataract surgery cost compared to the US?
Cataract surgery with a standard monofocal lens starts at $2,270 USD per eye, and premium lenses (multifocal, toric or EDOF) range from $3,500–$3,800 USD per eye — this includes your intraocular lens calculation study, your post-surgical care kit, and a month of follow-up visits, at no extra cost. In the U.S., the same procedure often costs significantly more out of pocket. We confirm your exact price in writing after your in-person evaluation.
Is it safe to get eye surgery in Mexico?
Vision Clinic is a COFEPRIS-registered surgical facility (Mexico's federal health authority), and your cataract surgeons, Dr. Ned Dávila and Dr. Ricardo Mata, are both certified by the Consejo Mexicano de Oftalmología (the Mexican Board of Ophthalmology). Do you accept HSA/FSA or US insurance?
No — we don't work with U.S. health insurance, HSA, or FSA plans. All treatment is paid for directly with us. If your insurance offers reimbursement for care received abroad, that's something you'd need to confirm directly with your provider.
How many trips to Tijuana will I need?
Most patients complete everything in a single trip of about 3–4 days: your evaluation and pre-op studies, first-eye surgery, second-eye surgery the next day, and a final check-up before you're cleared to head home. If you'd prefer, we can also schedule your evaluation as a separate visit ahead of your surgery trip.
