Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a laser treatment for open-angle glaucoma performed in-office, in about 10 minutes per eye, using only anesthetic drops.

The laser is applied selectively to the trabecular meshwork — the structure responsible for draining the eye's internal fluid — stimulating its function and improving the eye's natural drainage, which lowers intraocular pressure.

1
Anesthetic drops are applied; no fasting or sedation needed.
2
The laser is applied in-office, a few minutes per eye.
3
The patient returns to normal activities the same day.
4
Intraocular pressure is checked over the following days and weeks.

Its full effect can take a few weeks to develop and, in many patients, it can be repeated in the future if needed. It doesn't replace the need for periodic follow-up, but it can reduce — or in some cases eliminate — the need for drops.
