Ptosis is the drooping of the upper eyelid below its normal position, which can give the eyes a tired appearance or, in more pronounced cases, cover part of the pupil and affect vision.

It can be present from birth (congenital ptosis) or develop with age, due to weakening of the muscle that lifts the eyelid (involutional ptosis), and less commonly, from neurological or traumatic causes that require a more detailed workup.

Treatment is surgical: the muscle responsible for lifting the eyelid is reinforced or repositioned, restoring its normal position and function. The specific technique depends on how strong that muscle is, something assessed precisely during your consultation.
