Not every patient is automatically a candidate for refractive surgery: the decision depends on a complete evaluation that includes corneal topography, pachymetry (corneal thickness), the stability of your prescription, and your eye's overall health.
Stable prescription
Ideally with no significant changes for at least 12 months.
Adequate corneal thickness
Enough corneal tissue for the chosen technique, confirmed with pachymetry.
No active corneal disease
Such as uncontrolled keratoconus or severe, untreated dry eye.
Over 18 years old
With realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure.
If your cornea isn't a candidate for laser surgery, alternatives exist, such as the ICL implantable lens, which corrects your prescription without removing corneal tissue. The only way to know for certain which option is right for you is through an in-person evaluation.
