General description

Blepharoplasty corrects excess skin or fat in the upper and lower eyelids, whether for cosmetic reasons or because excess skin is obstructing the visual field. It is an oculoplastic procedure aimed at a natural result, in harmony with the rest of the face and, when applicable, with genuine functional benefit.

Here's the process at Vision Clinic

Consultation and evaluation. We evaluate the excess skin and/or fat in your eyelids, your cosmetic goals, and, if applicable, the impact on your visual field.

Complete eye exam. We confirm your eye's overall health before defining the surgical plan.

I explain your case, in person. Dr. Cristina Plata, our oculoplastic specialist, personally explains the ideal approach to achieve a natural result in harmony with the rest of your face.

Written quote and instructions. You get everything in writing: costs and pre-surgery instructions, with no surprises.

Surgery day. Outpatient surgery under local anesthesia with sedation, with incisions hidden within the eyelid's natural folds. It takes 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on what's being corrected.

Care and recovery.

Swelling and bruising around the eyes are expected during the first 2 weeks; cold compresses and sleeping with your head elevated help.
Antibiotic drops and ointment are prescribed to prevent infection, along with lubricant.
Stitches are removed in-office 7 days after surgery.
As the weeks go by the scars fade, and by around week 4 the expected cosmetic result starts to show.

One month of follow-up visits at no cost. The same oculoplastic surgeon who performed your blepharoplasty follows up on your healing and the cosmetic and functional result.
