General description
Blepharoplasty corrects excess skin or fat in the upper and lower eyelids, whether for cosmetic reasons or because excess skin is obstructing the visual field. It is an oculoplastic procedure aimed at a natural result, in harmony with the rest of the face and, when applicable, with genuine functional benefit.
What does the surgery involve?
Excess skin and/or fat is removed from the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, through incisions designed to be hidden within the eyelid's natural folds. It's an outpatient surgery, done under local anesthesia (sometimes with sedation), lasting 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on what's being corrected.
Post-surgical care
Swelling and bruising around the eyes are normal during the first week; cold compresses in the first few days and sleeping with your head elevated help with recovery. Antibiotic drops and/or ointment and lubricant are prescribed, and stitches, if used, are removed around 5–7 days later. We include, at no cost, the post-surgical kit with your starter treatment drops.
Post-surgical follow-up
The same oculoplastic surgeon who performed your blepharoplasty follows up on your healing and the cosmetic and functional result. We include one month of follow-up consultations at no cost.
