Chalazia and Styes
Medical and surgical treatment of eyelid lumps and inflammation.
General description
A stye (hordeolum) and a chalazion are common eyelid gland inflammations that can form a painful or persistent lump. Many cases respond to medical management (warm compresses, lid hygiene, medication); when they do not improve, they are resolved with a simple, quick-recovery outpatient surgical procedure.

What does the surgery involve?
Many styes and chalazia resolve with medical management (warm compresses, lid hygiene, and sometimes medication). When they don't improve, a small outpatient procedure is performed to drain the contents through a minimal incision, usually under local anesthesia, in about 15–20 minutes.
Post-surgical care
When surgical management is needed, continuing with warm compresses and antibiotic drops or ointment for a few days helps healing.
Post-surgical follow-up
The same physician who treated you follows up to confirm full resolution and rule out recurrence. We include one month of follow-up consultations at no cost after the procedure.
