Speaker at the XXXI International Cornea Course and FacoFest 2026
Last updated: August 2026

The last few weeks have been especially busy: I was a speaker at the XXXI International Course of the Mexican Center for Cornea and Refractive Surgery A.C., in Chihuahua, and then at FacoFest 2026, the Mexican Center for Cataract Surgeons' (CMCC) conference. Here's what I spoke about at each one, and why it fills me with pride to share it with you.
At this point in my career, being invited to these conferences alongside the very mentors who trained me in cornea, and alongside other specialists from across the country, isn't something I take for granted. Every time our paths cross there, it's a chance to keep learning from them, and also to bring what we do here in Tijuana to the table.

From September 22 to 25, I gave a talk on SMILE, with a real-time surgical video showing the range of prescriptions we treat with this technique — from -2.00 to -8.00 diopters of myopia, +1.00 to +7.00 diopters of hyperopia, and up to -6.00 diopters of astigmatism. Later, I took part in a panel discussion on PRESBYOND, the laser technique for correcting presbyopia (age-related near-vision loss), answering questions alongside other cornea specialists from around the country.

To me, presenting real cases in front of other cornea surgeons, and hearing how they solve their own, is exactly how we keep improving our laser techniques here in Tijuana. It's one of the most valuable ways to grow for our patients' benefit.

FacoFest 2026
A few days later I was at FacoFest 2026, the Mexican Center for Cataract Surgeons' (CMCC) conference. My talk was about something I discuss often in consultation: how to know, with real data rather than just a guess, how good a patient's vision will be with each type of intraocular lens — and why comparing a monofocal lens to a trifocal one isn't as simple as it sounds.

I use that information every day when talking with patients about which lens fits their lifestyle and expectations best, not just their prescription.
Going to these conferences isn't just about "staying current": it's a chance to compare cases, learn from my mentors and colleagues, and bring back to Tijuana what the rest of the country is doing. If you have questions about SMILE, presbyopia, or cataract surgery, I'm happy to go over them at your consultation.
